As I write my final message as your National AMBUCS President, my heart is filled with gratitude. Serving as your President has truly been the honor of a lifetime. I will forever cherish the friendships we have strengthened, the lives we have impacted, and the memories we have created together. Every mile traveled, every chapter visited, every conversation shared, and every success celebrated has reinforced what makes AMBUCS so special—our people and our unwavering commitment to changing lives through inspiring mobility and independence.
This past year has demonstrated the incredible power of service. Across the country, our members have recruited new volunteers, expanded our programs, awarded scholarships, provided Amtrykes, and strengthened our communities one person at a time. These accomplishments belong to every member who has invested their time, talents, and heart into our mission. Thank you for your encouragement, your support, and the privilege of serving alongside you.
Now, we turn our attention to an exciting celebration. At the end of this month, we will gather in beautiful Myrtle Beach for our National Conference. With more than 300 AMBUCS already registered, we are looking forward to fun in the sun, outstanding educational sessions, meaningful fellowship, and the opportunity to celebrate all we have accomplished together during the past year. It promises to be a memorable week as we recognize excellence, prepare our future leaders, and continue building an even stronger AMBUCS.

This year, our nation celebrated an extraordinary milestone—250 years of freedom, opportunity, and service. As Americans reflected on our shared history, I couldn’t help but think about the remarkable role AMBUCS has played in that story. For more than 100 years—over 40 percent of our nation’s history—AMBUCS has been improving lives through service, inspiring hope, fostering mobility, and building stronger communities across America.
That legacy exists because of people like you. Every Amtryke delivered, every scholarship awarded, every project completed, every partnership formed, and every hour volunteered represents our shared belief that one act of kindness can change a life. Together, those individual acts create a powerful movement that continues to strengthen communities from coast to coast.

Summer is underway, and AMBUCS members across the country are continuing to make a difference in their communities. Recently, your National Board, incoming Region Directors, and Big Hat Club leaders gathered at our new headquarters in High Point for board training and strategic discussions focused on the future of AMBUCS. As the AMBUCS year draws to a close, chapters across the country find themselves in a unique and powerful position: finishing strong while laying the groundwork for an even stronger beginning. This transition is more than just a change on the calendar—it is an opportunity to reflect, celebrate, and refocus on the mission of inspiring mobility and independence.
Ending the year strong starts with recognizing what has already been accomplished. From successful fundraisers and Amtryke presentations to meaningful community partnerships and member growth, each achievement represents lives impacted and futures changed. Taking time to celebrate these wins not only honors the hard work of members but also reinforces the purpose that drives every chapter. Recognition—whether through awards, simple acknowledgments, or shared stories—helps build momentum and pride heading into the new year.
At the same time, a strong finish requires intentional effort. Chapters should review their goals, assess what remains unfinished, and determine where a final push can make a difference. This might mean completing a service project, reaching a membership milestone, or ensuring financial goals are met. Even small victories in these final weeks can create a sense of accomplishment and unity that carries forward.
Equally important is leadership transition and preparation. Successful chapters don’t wait until the new year begins to think about what’s next—they prepare in advance. Incoming leaders should be engaged early, learning from current officers and gaining a clear understanding of chapter operations, goals, and expectations. Outgoing leaders play a critical role in setting their successors up for success by sharing knowledge, offering guidance, and ensuring continuity.
Starting the new year strong begins with vision and planning. Chapters should establish clear, achievable goals that align with the broader mission of AMBUCS. Recruitment and engagement should also be a priority. A new year brings new opportunities to invite others into the mission. Energized members who just celebrated a successful year are the best ambassadors for growth. Ultimately, ending and starting the AMBUCS year strong is about continuity of purpose. It’s about honoring the past year’s efforts while stepping confidently into the future. Spring Momentum: Roundup, Awards, Region Conferences, and National Conference
Spring has a way of bringing energy back into everything we do. Across AMBUCS, you can feel that momentum building. Chapters are active, communities are engaged, and there is a renewed sense of purpose as we head into one of the most important stretches of the year.
This is the season where a lot starts to come together. It begins with Spring Roundup. Not as a standalone effort, but as a reminder of what growth really looks like. Growth in AMBUCS has never been just about numbers. It is about stronger chapters, new relationships, and more people understanding the impact we can have in their community. Spring Roundup is a natural moment to reach out, invite someone new into your chapter, and create fresh energy that carries into the months ahead.
At the same time, we enter awards season. This is when we pause, even briefly, to recognize the people doing the work. The members who show up, lead well, and make a difference in ways that often go unseen. Taking the time to submit a nomination or celebrate a chapter is not just about recognition. It reinforces the values that keep AMBUCS moving forward.
As the season continues, Region Conferences begin to take shape. These gatherings are where ideas are shared, leadership is strengthened, and connections deepen. They offer something you cannot get anywhere else: time with other members who understand the work and are committed to doing it well. People leave Region Conferences with practical tools, new perspective, and a renewed sense of direction.

Recently, AMBUCS CEO Jessica Wall attended the EVERYLIFE Foundation for Rare Diseases Conference in Washington, DC. The conference, hosted by the EveryLife Foundation for Rare Diseases, brings together advocates, healthcare leaders, researchers, and policymakers who are committed to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by rare diseases.
The EveryLife Foundation is powered by the rare disease community and focuses on advancing meaningful change through evidence-based policy and advocacy. Its mission is to ensure that individuals living with rare diseases have access to the treatments, research, and support systems they need. Conferences like this serve as an important platform for collaboration, education, and the sharing of new ideas that can positively impact health outcomes.
During the event, Jessica had the opportunity to engage with leaders from across the rare disease community, learn about emerging policy initiatives, and gain insight into current challenges and opportunities facing patients and caregivers. The information shared at the conference highlights how advocacy, research, and community partnerships can work together to drive progress in healthcare policy. Thank you, Jessica, for representing AMBUCS and for bringing valuable knowledge and perspective back to the organization.
As we move into the spring season, we are also just a couple of weeks away from the start of the AMBUCS Region Conferences. Region Conferences provide members with a valuable opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for service and the mission of AMBUCS. In addition to the social aspect, Region Conferences provide important learning opportunities. For more than a century, Ambucs across the nation have turned big dreams into real change—building communities, empowering individuals, and creating mobility and independence for those who need it most.
Mentorship is where it all begins. Every great Ambuc once stood where a new member stands today—eager to help, but uncertain of where to start. It’s the wisdom, encouragement, and friendship of mentors that light the way. When experienced members take the time to guide others—to share lessons learned, stories of success, and even a few tales of mistakes—they do more than pass on knowledge. They pass on spirit.
Through mentorship, we remind one another why our work matters. We teach not just the “how” of building Amtrykes, fundraising, or organizing service projects—but the deeper “why” of compassion, inclusion, and purpose. Mentorship builds confidence, connection, and community. It transforms good intentions into meaningful action. It’s what turns members into leaders and chapters into families.
But mentorship alone isn’t what makes AMBUCS so special. The other half of our success is the spirit of bootstrapping—that fearless drive to get things done, no matter what.
